Pet Parasite Prevention & Control
Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites are common concerns for dogs and cats throughout Indiana. Below are answers to common questions pet owners ask about parasite testing, prevention plans, and year-round veterinary care.
Pet Parasite Prevention FAQs
Why is year-round flea and tick prevention important?
Parasites can remain active throughout much of the year and may still survive during colder seasons indoors or during temperature fluctuations. Year-round flea and tick prevention is recommended to help reduce the risk of skin irritation, allergic reactions, tick-borne illnesses, and household infestations in dogs and cats.
Does my indoor pet still need parasite prevention?
Yes. Indoor pets can still be exposed to parasites through other pets, outdoor trips, contaminated environments, or insects brought into the home. Routine parasite prevention helps protect indoor dogs and cats from fleas, intestinal worms, and mosquito-borne heartworm disease.
What types of parasite screenings do you offer?
We use physical examinations, fecal tests, and blood tests during your pet’s annual exam to detect parasite-related health concerns. Even if no symptoms are visible, these tests provide early detection.
